INT. FILM SET - NIGHT
A half-struck apartment set. The lights run hot. MAUD (50s), script supervisor, notebook on her knees, tallies the takes in pencil.
ELIAS
(eyes on the monitor)
Let’s go again.
MAUD
That’s twenty-two. Your actress can’t feel her hands anymore.
ELIAS
Then she’ll act with someone else’s.
Silence. An electrician laughs, then thinks better of it. NOOR (25), camera assistant, wipes the lens without a word.
NOOR
Battery’s good for ten more minutes.
MAUD
Ten minutes. One take. The last one.
CUT TO:
EXT. STUDIO PARKING LOT - NIGHT
Rain on the trucks. Maud smokes under an awning. Elias joins her, hood soaked through.
ELIAS
How did you log the last one?
MAUD
(opening her notebook)
“Good. Cup continuity error.” Same as the other twenty-one.
ELIAS
What if the cup is the movie?
Maud looks at him for a long time. Then, at last, she laughs.
CLOSE ON THE NOTEBOOK
On the page, in pencil: “Take 22. Keep.”
CUT TO:
INT. EDITING ROOM - DAY
Three months later. On screen, take 22. The actress sets the cup down on the wrong side.
EDITOR (O.S.)
Do we cut it? It doesn’t match.
MAUD
We keep it. It’s the only one where she breathes.
